Diversity Initiative Mission

The UMCP Diversity Initiative explores and enhances common values that emphazise interdependence, equality, justice, human rights, and the sanctity of each individual's dignity. The goal is to further a unified vision and recognition of the principle of "unity and diversity" and of the fact that we all are fellow-citizens of an emerging global village.

The mission of the UMCP Diversity Initiative is to build a more inclusive community grounded in respect of differences based on age, race, ethnicity, gender, religion disability, sexual orientation, class, marital status, political affiliation and national origin. To accomplish this mission, the UMCP Diversity Initiative will encourage and facilitate shared campus and unit responsibility to create a more sensitive and welcoming campus environment through programs and on-going projects. In addition, the UMCP Diversity Initiative will coordinate efforts to increase the visibility and coherence of campus diversity activities. The Diversity Initiative will be guided by an Advisory Board and implemented by a Steering Committee. The Diversity Initiative will serve as a resource for campus community on diversity issues.
