Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) is a college-bound academic-enrichment program, based in New York City, that is dedicated to facilitating young People of Color’s educational excellence and success by providing intensive outreach, counseling, tutoring, mentoring, financial support, and, ultimately, job placement services for students identified as academically “at-risk.” SEO students are targeted in middle school and followed through to the completion of their Bachelor’s degree programs and entrée into the profession of their choosing. OHRP, with assistance from the Admissions Office, Office of Campus Programs, Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Education (OMSE), and various faculty members, collaborates with SEO to bring approximately 50 middle and high school students from New York’s inner city schools to Maryland every Spring so that they may explore and experience college life over a two day period. SEO students participate in a variety of college-related activities as a part of SEO’s mission to engender their preparedness for higher education.
