Diversity Workshops

Through its Diversity Training and Consultation Services (DTCS), OHRP conducts workshops especially designed for Non-Exempt Staff on a wide variety of diversity topics that include, but are not limited to:

  • An Introduction to Diversity
  • Definitions of Diversity
  • History of Diversity at the University of Maryland
  • Building Inclusive Workplace Communities
  • Leadership Development for a Diverse World
  • Facilitating Difficult Conversations
  • How to Talk to People Who Don’t Want to Listen
  • Developing Cross-Cultural Communication Skills
  • Mediation and Conflict Resolution
  • Hate Crimes and Bias Incidents Prevention

OHRP conducts DTCS workshops through the Office of Human Resources offerings as well as independently. All DTCS workshops are geared for participants at an introductory, intermediate, and/or advanced level of understanding of diversity subject matter. Independently conducted workshops can be tailored to unique needs of any group, unit, or department – including being offered bi- or multi- lingually. I co-facilitate these workshops with other members of the OHRP Staff.

Sexual Harassment Prevention Program

Through OHRP’s Sexual Harassment Prevention Program (SHPP), Non-Exempt Staff across the campus community learn how to lower incidences of sexual harassment on campus by coming to understand:

  1. What sexual harassment is (as well as what is not)
  2. Their responsibility/liability with respect to behavior while at work
  3. A variety of techniques to use to confront and/or interrupt sexual harassment on the job
  4. Reporting requirements and related resources available to them in the event they experience and/or are accused of sexual harassment in the workplace.

SHPP workshops can be tailored to the unique needs of any group, unit, or department- including being offered bi- or multi – lingually. Angie Bass co-facilitates these workshops with OHRP’s Campus Compliance Officer, Roger Candelaria.
